The SIPA Special Support Unit is a modern, highly professional and highly trained unit, specialised for high-risk tasks. Although relatively young (it became operational in 2005), the Unit acquired a high level of competence and was trained after the model of the best training practices.
Dedicated work, sacrifice and specialist trainings enabled this Unit to perform tasks and duties within its competence. Police officials of the Unit have apprehended, without excessive force, over 700 individuals suspected of having committed most serious crimes.
Thanks to the efforts of the Unit’s Command and Agency’s Management, a number of training programmes for the police officials of this Unit were implemented in cooperation with respectable foreign instructors and units. The Unit uses the state-of-the-art weapons and equipment.
Efficiency in performance of tasks and duties, professionalism and continued trainings make the Special Support Unit an important counterpart in fighting organised crime and terrorism.
The Special Support Unit provides support to other organisational units by ensuring additional police tactics, equipment and personnel when enhanced security measures are required. The Unit performs the most sophisticated tactical and operational-technical police operations by using police powers in high-risk situations when special skills, training and equipment are required. It is designed to solve all hostage situations and provide specialist support in situations when it is necessary to use service dogs. In accordance with the law, the Unit establishes internal and external cooperation with other law enforcement agencies and performs other tasks in compliance with the law. All these activities are performed upon approval of the Agency’s Director.
Internal Organisational Units
ALFA Anti-Terrorist Section takes operational and tactical measures and actions to detect, prevent and eliminate consequences of terrorist activities and arrests terrorism suspects and individuals brought into connection with terrorism-related crimes and hands them over to relevant authorities. In accordance with the law and international agreements, this Section can also take part in actions to prevent, combat and eliminate terrorism at the international level. The Section performs other duties in accordance with the law.
BETA Operations Section takes operational and tactical measures and actions to detect, prevent and eliminate consequences of different types of criminal activities. In accordance with the law, the Section arrests suspects of criminal offences within the competence of the court and hands them over to relevant authorities, protects individuals upon requests of relevant authorities and approval of the Agency’s Director. Moreover, this Section can take part in tasks and duties in highly risk situations when special skills, training and equipment are required as well as specialist knowledge and skills related to mountain climbing, vertical intrusion, overcoming inaccessible and impervious areas, anti-sniper protection, on-water and underwater skills. It provides support to other members of the Unit and performs other tasks in accordance with the law.
GAMA Support Section provides support to other Sections of the Unit ensuring fast and efficient manoeuvre and tactical actions under all weather conditions and situations, provides specialist support in situations when it is necessary to use service dogs, performs tasks related to communications, crypto – protection, logistical support and physical protection of the Unit’s headquarters as well as other tasks in accordance with the law.
