Special Support Unit Successfully Completed Training in Handling Police Service Dogs

Members of the SIPA Special Support Unit successfully completed the training in handling service dogs delivered by service dog trainers of the Special Police Unit of the Federal Police Administration (FPA) in the period 13/8 – 15/8/2013.
During the training, mode of handling and tactical actions with police service dogs in operations were presented and the following topics were addressed: introduction to Cynology (police dogs, training needs, the theory of smell, positive motivation) and service dogs in the FPA Special Police Unit (service dogs for detection of explosives and narcotics, search dogs, attack dogs), with special emphasis on attack dogs (drive development, bite techniques, defence and attack, police dog tactics).

In addition to theory, the training included some tactical exercises with emphasis on ‘attack dogs'. SIPA Special Support Unit members were introduced the mode of handling and roles of service dogs as well as all tactical and security advantages provided by usage of this type of dogs, particularly in complex and high-risk operations.
