Special Support Unit Drill: Suspect Incapacitated in 15 Seconds

On March 25th, 2011, members of the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) Special Support Unit carried out a tactical drill “Apprehension of an Armed Individual” in the area of Nisici.

Upon receiving information that an armed individual is in a facility, randomly shooting a fire arm and threatening to kill themselves, the SIPA Special Support Unit showed how rapidly they can locate the suspect, tactically position themselves and respond to a possible terrorist activity.

Primarily, members of the Special Support Unit’s Negotiation Team initiated negotiations. After the suspect refused it, a coordinated intrusion of sniper and intrusion teams into the barricaded facility followed, where the armed individual was incapacitated in 15 seconds.

At the drill’s end, everybody present had an opportunity to analyse the drill along with the Unit’s command.

The Agency’s Director Mirko Lujic, representatives from the Prosecutor’s Office of B&H, the ICITAP Chief Advisor for the Unit Robert Mayers, and EUPM representatives David Smith and John Ehret were present among others.
