Today, January 29th, 2010, twenty members of the SIPA Special Support Unit received police self- defence instructor certificates at the Unit’s premises in Lukavica. The Unit's members went through a two week jiu-jitsu training course delivered with assistance of the German Federal Province of Hessen and EUPM. The training programme was led by Frank Witte, a world jiu-jitsu champion and a trainer for police forces.
„It has been a great honour for me to be in the SIPA's Special Support Unit, whose members are highly motivated, open-minded and already well-trained. It has been a challenge to fight against them. “, Witte said during the certificate award ceremony.
In addition to Witte, the certificates were delivered by SIPA Director, Mirko Lujić and EUPM Advisor for SIPA David Smith.
Director Lujić said that the Special Support Unit is one of the most important parts of SIPA emphasising the fact that this Unit conducted over hundred arrests during the last year. He thanked the international partners and expressed his hope that the cooperation with them would not only be continued but intensified as well.
