On April 23rd, 2010 after successfully completing training for undercover investigators, twenty four officials from the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) received certificates at the premises of SIPA's Special Support Unit in Lukavica.
From April 19th to April 23rd 2010, the SIPA officials underwent training in Undercover Operations and Arrests, carried out with the help of ICITAP. The training was led by Jim Sweeting, currently an adviser at the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Srpska, who had worked as an undercover investigator for 23 years, before arriving to B&H.
„Undercover operations are the most dangerous kind of police work. It would be even harder without a cooperation with the special police“, said Sweeting during the award of the certificates.
Learning from the mentor with a valuable experience in undercover work, the SIPA officials obtained an insight into the knowledge they possess and what more needs to be done to adequately respond to a growing trend of criminal offences in our country.
„Coordinated work of the Special Support Unit and undercover investigators in the field yielded significant results in the past, which contributed to dozens of arrests,” said Mirsad Vilić, SIPA's Special Support Unit Commander.
