SIPA Cut Off Arms Trafficking Channel, Searches at 13 Locations

On 14 June 2013, acting upon orders from the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, members of the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) cut off a channel for arms trafficking out of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Thereby, searches at 13 locations were carried out in Sarajevo, Cazin and Brod, with the assistance from members of the Sarajevo Canton Ministry of Interior and Republic of Srpska Ministry of Interior. In the framework of these activities, six individuals were arrested in relation to the perpetration of the criminal offence set out in the Article 250 of the Criminal Code BH “Organised Crime”, in conjunction with the criminal offence set out in the Article 193 of the CC BH “Illicit Trafficking in Arms and Military Equipment and Products of Dual Use” and Article 195 of the CC BH “Illicit Trafficking in Narcotic Drugs”. Three individuals were interviewed as witnesses.


During the searches, a small workshop for the production of improvised firearms in the form of different calibre pens was detected. Quantity of military weapons and ammunition of various calibre, small quantity of powdery substance resembling narcotics, one motor vehicle, high precision digital scale and other items that might be used as evidence were seized.
The arrested individuals were brought to the official premises of the State Investigation and Protection Agency, Banja Luka Regional Office, where they were criminally processed. A report on the committed criminal offence and perpetrators will be submitted to the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
