SIPA Carries Out Operation “Rebus” in the Area of Sarajevo

Early this morning (11/30/2015), police officials of the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) have started operation codenamed "Rebus", which is being carried out in the wider area of Sarajevo.

Five individuals were apprehended in the operation "Rebus" due to grounds for suspicion of having committed criminal offence “Organized Crime” in conjunction with criminal offences “Tax Evasion”, “Falsification or Destruction of Business or Trade Books or Documents, “Filing False Tax Returns” and “Money Laundering”.

Individuals identified by initials AM (1971), AĆ (1972), EŠ (1985), AB (1984) and AM (1969) were apprehended. Searches of residential and commercial facilities in 14 locations are in progress, with the aim of finding and forfeiting items that may serve as evidence in further proceedings.

The apprehended individuals are suspected of having committed criminal offences in performing various duties and tasks in the companies “Mrkva Group d.o.o. Sarajevo" and "Mrkva d.o.o. Sarajevo". It is suspected that the illegal activities of suspects in this case caused the several million BAM damage to the B&H budget.

These activities were carried out on the orders of the Cantonal Court in Sarajevo and the Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office, and are result of months of investigation. While working on this case, the police officials of SIPA established close cooperation with officials of the Tax Administration of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and today's activities were carried out in cooperation with police officials of the Ministry of Interior of the Sarajevo Canton.

The apprehended persons will be brought to SIPA premises for criminal investigation. Thereafter, the persons, along with the Report on the Grounds for Suspicion on the Criminal Offence and Perpetrators, will be handed over to the Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor’s Office for further proceedings.
