SIPA Arrested Four Individuals Brought into Connection with Terrorism

As part of an international police operation codenamed “Beneluks“ carried out together with police authorities of the Netherlands and Sweden, police officials of the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) arrested the individuals identified by initials AR (1979), OAS (1962), EDŽ (1973) and AŠ (1975), of which three are B&H and one is Swedish national.

These individuals were deprived of liberty due to grounded suspicion of having committed the criminal offence under Article 201 of the CC B&H “Terrorism“, Paragraph (4) in conjunction with Paragraph (5) item a). They are suspected of having constructed, on someone’s order, an explosive device in Bosnia and Herzegovina with the intent to deliver it to one of the Scandinavian countries, and which, according to available information, was supposed to be  used for the commission of a terrorist act.  

Three persons were deprived of liberty in the border area when they were prevented from transferring the improvised explosive device across the border in a passenger vehicle, where the device was found. At the same time, one individual was deprived of liberty in the Sarajevo area.

Searches of facilities at two locations are underway in the Sarajevo area aimed at detecting and seizing items that may serve as evidence in further proceedings.

These activities were carried out upon orders of the Court B&H and Prosecutor’s Office B&H.

During the work on this case, a close cooperation was established with the Intelligence Security Agency of B&H and police authorities of the Netherlands and Sweden while recent activities were carried out in cooperation with the MoI of Republika Srpska and Border Police B&H.

Following criminal processing in SIPA premises the arrested individuals along with the report on criminal offence and perpetrators will be handed over to the Prosecutor’s Office B&H for further proceedings.
