Operation „Damask“
SIPA Apprehended One Individual for Participating in Armed Conflicts in Syria and Iraq

This morning (03/17/2016), police officials of the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA), as a follow up activity conducted within the operation codenamed "Damask", apprehended individual identified by initials AI (1987) in the area of Sarajevo and searched a residential facility used by the mentioned individual with the aim of finding and the seizure of items that may serve as evidence in further proceedings. These activities were carried on the orders of the Court of B&H and the B&H Prosecutor's Office.
Individual identified by initials AI was apprehended due to the grounds for suspicion of having committed criminal offence under Article 202d, paragraph (2) of the B&H Criminal Code, "Organizing a Terrorist Group" in conjunction with the criminal offence “Terrorism.” The mentioned individual is suspected that, in the period from 2012 to 2014, repeatedly stayed in Syria and Iraq and participated in the armed conflicts on the side of radical terrorist groups and organizations.
Apprehended individual was brought to the premises of SIPA for criminal proceeding. Thereafter, the individual, along with the report on the grounds for suspicion on the criminal offense being committed and the perpetrator, will be handed over to the Prosecutor's Office for further proceedings.
SIPA, in cooperation with partner agencies, will continue the fight against terrorism and related crimes, with the aim of discovering all the perpetrators and documenting illegal activities.
