Operation "Damask": In The Follow Up Activities SIPA Apprehended Two Individuals

On Saturday (01/09/2016), police officials of the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) apprehended two individuals at the border crossing Hum-Šćepan polje, in the follow up activities conducted within the operation codenamed "Damask"; they also performed two searches with the aim of finding and seizure of items that may serve as evidence in further proceedings. These activities were carried on the orders of the Court of B&H and B&H Prosecutor's Office.

The individuals identified by initials SK (1993) and AJ (1982) were apprehended due to the grounds for suspicion of having committed criminal offence under Article 162b of the B&H CC, paragraph (2) "Unlawful Forming and Joining Paramilitary or Para-police Formations" in the attempt.

While working on this case, significant national and international police cooperation was achieved, especially with the FBI, Ministry of Interior of Montenegro and the B&H Border Police, which resulted in preventing the departure of these individuals to the Syrian battlefield.

The apprehended individuals were brought to the SIPA premises for criminal investigation. Yesterday (01/10/2016), individual identified by initials SK was handed over to the B&H Prosecutor’s Office for further proceedings, along with the Report on the Grounds for Suspicion on the Criminal Offence and Perpetrators, while the individual identified by initials AJ was released.

SIPA, in cooperation with partner agencies, continues active fight against terrorism and related crimes, with special emphasis on preventive activities.
