On 18 June 2013, acting upon orders from the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Prosecutor’s Office of BH, members of the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA), in an operation code-named “Video”, searched eight commercial buildings – video stores in Sarajevo, Eastern Sarajevo and Zenica, with the assistance from members of the Republic of Srpska Ministry of Interior, Sarajevo Canton Ministry of Interior and Zenica-Doboj Canton Ministry of Interior. The operation was carried out with the aim of supressing impermissible use of copyrights.
The searches were carried out due to grounds for suspicion that the criminal offence set out in the Article 243 Paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina “Impermissible Use of Copyrights” was committed at these buildings, in conjunction with the Law on Copyright and related rights in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
During the searches, tens of thousands of pirated and original sound and image carriers (DVD/CD), for the distribution of which suspects did not have the permission by an author or other owner of copyright, a number of central processor units and other items in relation with the perpetration of the criminal offence, which could be used as evidence, were found and seized.
A report on the committed criminal offence and perpetrators will be submitted to the Prosecutor’s Office of BH.
