Members of SIPA Attended “Equality in Security – Be a Policewoman” Seminar

Members of the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA), who are active members of the Policewomen’s Network, attended the “Equality in Security – Be a Policewoman”, two-day seminar (9 and 10 May 2013) held in Sarajevo, as a part of the implementation of the project under the same name.
The “Equality in Security – Be a Policewoman” project was initiated with the aim of implementing the Action Plan for the application of the “Women, Peace and Security” UN Resolution 1325 in order to increase the number of women in the security sector in Bosnia and Herzegovina and strengthen the association of the Policewomen’s Network.
In early 2012, the Policewomen’s Network was officially registered with the main offices in Sarajevo. It includes policewomen from 15 police agencies in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The aim of the association is to promote gender equality and democratic principles in police work.
All members of the Policewomen’s Network are highly motivated for further work within the network and breaking prejudices and stereotypes about police profession as a “male profession”. The protection of police women’s rights, provision of equal status and increase in the number of women in police structures in general, primarily in managerial positions, are particularly emphasised.
The members of SIPA will actively participate in the work of the association in order to increase the number of members at the level of the Agency and beyond, and generally improve the integrity and status of policewomen in the law enforcement agencies. Mr Goran Zubac, the Director of SIPA pointed out that he fully supported activities of the Policewomen’s Network.
