Invitation for Media: Sava River Mine Cleaning Completed

The Project of a section of Sava riverbed demining, successfully implemented by the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) and the Police of the Czech Republic, as well as thirteen institutions from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Croatia, will be completed on 12 September 2012. In the framework of the demining activities, the Czech diving experts took out from the Sava River 146 mortar shells, 60 mm and 120 mm, as well as rifle grenades, and the activities were continued today. The unexploded devices will be transported and destroyed at the military polygon of “Odlučna Barbara” near Glamoč.

The exceptional importance of this project is supported by the fact that this is the first B&H multi-agency project and the first international project of the kind implemented in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is important to note that the Armed Forces of B&H, by their active and outstanding engagement, operated in civilian environment for the first time. In addition, the project is of exceptional importance not only for the countries whose institutions take part in its implementation, but also for the entire international community, since the Sava River is an international waterway.

We would like to invite you to attend the send-off of the members of the Department for Specialised Diving Activities and Training of the Police of the Czech Republic, at the plateau in front of the “Arnautović” hotel in Orašje on 12 September 2012, at 11 o’clock.
