BIH Police Agency Directors met at Mrakovica

Meeting participants discussed the security preparations of police agencies for the upcoming general elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was concluded that the police agencies in BiH have already undertaken certain activities on the preparation of police HQ which will work to ensure the safety of the election process, as well as that they shall continue to coordinate and prepare in order to ensure safe elections in BiH on October 3, 2010.
One of the topics of the meeting related to improvement of the operational activities of police agencies in BiH, as well as improvement of coordination in the combat against terrorism and criminal activities that may be associated with terrorist activities. It was concluded necessary that within these activities each police agency makes its own proposal with the scope of work and concrete measures to combat terrorism as well as that is necessary to activate and intensify the work of Task Force for Combating Terrorism in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and to have an Operative Group formed by the BiH Prosecutor's Office.
Directors of police agencies also discussed the activities of working groups in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which are focused on implementation of the agreement on exchange of electronic databases, the problem of theft of motor vehicles, and the fight against organized crime.
Participants also discussed the possibility of signing a memorandum or agreements that will govern the cooperation of police agencies within the ILECUS project, which refers to establishment of institutional cooperation in the exchange of information and coordination of joint cross border investigations of our police structures with police structures of the countries in the region, made possible by the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation in accordance with the Police Cooperation Convention for Southeast Europe.
One of the topics of the meeting related to the problem of standardization of procedures related to the movement of vehicles under escort and vehicles with the right-of-way.
The meeting held on Mrakovica was organized by the Director of Police of Republika Srpska.
Meetings of the BiH police agency directors, representatives of the Ministry of Security of BiH and the Chief Prosecutor of the BiH Prosecutor's Office are coordinated and held every two months with the aim to discuss the practical issues of inter-police cooperation in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Meetings are prepared with the support of ICITAP a project of the U.S. Embassy in BiH, and attended by representatives of the European Union Police Mission (EUPM) in BiH.
